Costa Magarakis - "1888JTR" - mixed media on fiberglass, Approx. 47cm (18.5”)
Costa Magarakis is a Tel Aviv-based artist working with different kinds of mediums and specialising in sculptures.
Inspired by the Victorian era and science fiction novels, he creates surreal sculptures that have a story to tell.
His heeled figurines combine mythology, religion, and science with modern symbols and icons and depict grotesque imagery of surreal machines and impossible worlds. At the hands of the artist, simulated footwear becomes the body of an animal, a maritime vessel, or new type of creature altogether. His work is described as existing within a "Gothic wonderland". Differing types of glass, bronze, resin, clay, paint, and other media are used to craft these pieces, typically on fiberglass structures.
