"The Staircase' and 'A step behind' were Illustrations originally published in Force of Evil, a collection of short stories written by Gary Crew, Mammoth Australia, 1998. These very early works were lost for 17 years after the publisher folded, and only recently recovered; they are (for me at least) an interesting insight into my early work as a horror and SF illustrator". - Shaun Tan
